Sonoma Elementary has been received the MI HeartSafe School Award. Ms. Christine Valenzuela, physical education teacher, initiated the process and applied for the award. The award was designed to help schools be prepared for a cardiac emergency.
MI HeartSafe Schools are dedicated to preventing Sudden Cardiac Death of the Young. Schools must have a written medical emergency response plan, a medical emergency response team, current CPR/AED certification for at least 10% of the staff, properly maintained and inspected AEDs, perform at least one cardiac emergency response drill per year, and have athletes have pre-participation sports screening.
Congratulations to Sonoma Elementary and thank you, Ms. Valenzuela, for your dedication to the safety of our students, staff, and community.
