Parents/Guardians/Staff,

Governor Gretchen Whitmer issued an Executive Order for Michigan residents to shelter-in-place effective March 24, 2020 at 12:01 a.m. through April 13, 2020 at 11:59 p.m.  Harper Creek Community Schools will make the following adjustments due to the Executive Order.  Only essential employees will report to work for limited amounts of time.  Please email or leave voice messages.  The district phone line for school questions is 269-441-6550.

Harper Creek Community Schools will continue the children feeding program with adjustments.  Effective tomorrow, March 24, 2020, the program will be pick-up only with students and parents able to pick-up breakfast and lunch between the hours of 10:00 a.m. through 12:00 p.m. at the following locations:

· High School Auditorium Lobby - located on the southeast side of the building

· Wattles Park Elementary Cafeteria – located at the front of the building

· Sonoma Elementary main Entrance – located at the front of the building

Please note buses will not be running due to the shelter-in-place order.

Staff will continue to work remotely to support the learning of our students.  Plans are in place to move towards an on-line learning platform.  The district is continuing to monitor action taken by the Governor and/or the Legislature to allow for on-line learning to ‘count’.  Until this occurs all work in paper packets and posted links on our district website will be for enhanced learning and will be ungraded.

The United States Secretary of Education gave a federal waiver of state testing for this school year.  The Michigan Legislature now has to amend several laws in relation state testing to make this final.

I understand these are unprecedented times.  We are working diligently to support our students and to help our parents.  We are all learning.  Our goal is to have an on-line learning platform operational by Monday, April 13th.  We need your help. Please fill out the technology needs survey so we can understand your student(s) individual technology needs.  Access to devices and access to internet for all our students is the first critical step in the transition to an on-line learning platform.  I am asking that all families fill out the following survey:

I will continue to keep you up to date with the latest information as it becomes available.

Take care,

Rob Ridgeway
